I have been researching for a few weeks and I think I found a winner.  I have yet to read one bad review on this mic so I think I will be taking the plunge just as soon as the wallet allows.  It all started after I borrowed a buddy's Neumann U-87 for a week.  What presence, what response, what clarity...um WHAT A PRICE TAG!

So I began my journey to find a comparable mic at an affordable price.  I beleive after talking to many insiders that THIS IS the mic!

AVANTONE CV-12 Microphone Provides "Hot Rodding" via Extra Tubes

The new AVANTONE CV-12 large capsule multi-pattern microphone from Avant  Electronics is the first tube mic that comes with three different interchangeable tubes that can be swapped out in less than a minute.

"With the addition of three tubes, the user can "Hot Rod" his microphone to satisfy his sonic taste by changing the gain stage just ahead of the output transformer," stated Glen Heffner, National/ International Sales Manager for Avant Electronics.

The high-grade 6072A, ECC81, & ECC83 tubes come from Russia and the Slovak Republic. The CV-12 large capsule multi-pattern mic has a -10 dB pad, 80 Hz roll-off switch, dual 32mm capsules and features a metallic wine-red finish with polished nickel trim. The mic kit comes complete with power supply, providing nine switchable patterns, a vintage style shock mount, cable, real wooden mic box and an aluminum road case to hold everything.

Image Ok Boys and girls this is a hard post for me to make.  Those of you that play the guitar (or any instrument for that matter) will appreciate what I’m about to say.

I went into Guitar Center today to buy strings for my oh so sexy Godin Multiac Steel Duet.  Guitar Center is like the Sams Club of the music world, it’s a candy store of gear piled floor to ceiling and being a gear head I got lost as I usually do for a few hours driving the sales guys nuts demo-ing new stuff.  I was looking for an electric, something vintage and used like an Ibanez RG770 or a Robin Ranger or perhaps a Japanese Strat or even a Fernandes Dragonfly.   None of which I found so after looking at amps, effects pedals and mics I wound up in the Acoustic Room.  I’m not really looking for an acoustic but I felt like (fweeping) a little.  After testing a few Breedloves , an Ovation (still not a fan) and a Fender cutaway I found a gorgeous shallow body acoustic made by Taylor called the T5.   Upon picking it up and “fweeping” a bit, the ground shook and a lightning bolt came out of the sky!

Have you ever picked up an instrument and it felt like and extension of you?  Aside from a wider neck which took all of ten minutes to adjust to this guitar felt like I had been playing it for 20 years.  The tone that emitted from it (into a kickass Fender acoustic amp) was near godlike.  In five minutes I had a crowd around me, I’m telling you this thing INSPIRED ME!  When I say it played like butter I really mean it played like BUTTAH!  man it plays nearly as fast as an electric.
